Hello and Welcome to Sea Star Counseling!
My name is Luisa, and I’m a licensed counselor in Massachusetts (Licensed Mental Health Counselor - LMHC), New Hampshire (Clinical Mental Health Counselor - CCMH), and Maine (Clinical Professional Counselor - CPC).
With over 20 years of experience, I’ve had the privilege of providing counseling support to individuals of all ages, each facing a variety of mental health difficulties. My experience spans diverse settings such as inpatient and outpatient care, embedded within a military installation, and integrated within a pediatric primary care organization.
As a strengths-based counselor, I believe in collaborating with my clients to equip them with the tools they need to live the life they envision. My approach is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), but I adapt evidence-based interventions to suit the unique needs of each client.
I specialize in treating trauma and am certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). I have extensive experience working with clients involved with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) as well as the District Attorney’s office. In addition to trauma treatment, I also work with individuals struggling with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), phobias, anxiety, adoption, challenges unique to military life, family/relationship dynamics, stress, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
I enjoy working with children, teenagers, and adults, and I believe in integrating families and support systems into the counseling process when appropriate.
Sea Star Counseling is a dedicated telehealth service specializing in trauma treatment. We also provide psychoeducation and support to parents, spouses, loved ones, etc. in helping them better understand and navigate the impact of trauma.
Sea Star Counseling also provides counseling support to individuals struggling with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), phobias, anxiety, adoption related challenges, experiences unique to military life, family/relationship dynamics, stress, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Since all services are provided virtually, clients must be at least 11 years old, not a danger to themselves or others, and comfortable with telehealth sessions.

During the consultation, various factors will be considered to determine whether our services are the right fit or if a referral to an outside provider would be more appropriate.
~ If we are a good match, you will receive an email with instructions on creating an account on our telehealth platform, followed by additional guidance.
~ If we determine that our services may not be the best fit, we will make every effort to provide you with outside referrals. However, referrals do not guarantee service availability, and it is the client's responsibility to follow up with the recommended providers.

Yes! Sea Star Counseling currently has openings for daytime and early afternoon appointments, Monday through Thursday.
Sea Star Counseling is named after the Starfish Story, originally titled The Star Thrower by Loren Eiseley. The story is as follows:
One morning, a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a young boy picking up starfish and gently throwing them back into the ocean. As he approached, he asked, "Why are you doing this?"
The boy replied, "The tide is going out, and if I don’t throw them back, they will die."
The man looked around and saw thousands of starfish scattered along the shore. He shook his head and said, "There are too many. You can’t possibly make a difference."
The boy picked up another starfish, tossed it into the waves, and smiled. "It made a difference to that one."
The old man looked at the boy and thought about what he had said and done. The old man leaned over, picked up a starfish, and joined the boy in throwing them back into the water.
